What if I told you that when I ask young children what their favorite books are, they have difficulty remembering what it is? It is shocking but true. Studies have shown that if you find interesting and compelling material for struggling readers, they will excel in reading. That is why I created, Julieanna's Matchbook. I have a passion for reading and want young children to realize that reading gives you the knowledge to succeed in life. I believe once someone finds their perfect book, they will become an avid reader.
I was the girl who disliked reading. My parents struggled to find books I would love to read until I wanted to see the movie, Percy Jackson. My Mom told me the only way we would see it was if I read the book. I completed the book in two days and begged for the second book in the series. I realized then that I loved science fiction, read countless books in the same genre, and pushed myself to find other types of books that I think I might like.
Since discovering my passion for reading, I have completed over 200 hours as a reading mentor to young children at elementary classrooms, public libraries, have donated books in all 50 states, and became an ambassador for Reading is Fundamental. I created this page to help parents explore new ways to help their children enjoy reading. I have posted some of my favorite YouTube videos (https://www.youtube.com/c/JulieannaJacksonMatchbook/videos) linked on this page of myself reading children's books. At the end of every video, I give a fun tip that can help make reading more enjoyable. Reading should be a fun and relaxing environment that will allow children's imaginations to soar.
